I really enjoyed my holiday break where I got to read as much as I wanted with few other responsibilities. Although my library science classes started back this week, I'm still clinging to the final threads of being able to read ALL THE BOOKS. Here's what I'm reading now. 

E-book

Don't worry if you haven't heard of this one because it's not out yet! I got this as an ARC from Penguin and it's the second book in Colby Marshall's Dr. Jenna Ramey series. However, you don't have to read the first book, Color Blind, to fall right into this one. 

Double Vision follows Dr. Jenna Ramey, an FBI profiler who helps solve crimes using her gift of synesthesia. I'm enjoying it thus far and can't wait to share a review with you in the coming weeks! 

Audiobook

Over the years, I've really grown to appreciate a good short story. Especially since school is so demanding and is hardly conducive to pleasure reading, a short story is the perfect way to squeeze a little reading time in without my mind latching onto the story to distract me from my studies for a week or two at a time. 

I Was Told There'd Be Cake is one of the funniest things I've read in a while. Sloane Crosley is so insightful and perceptive--she articulates things you notice in fleeting seconds and never recall until they happen again in real time. She pokes fun at herself and the world around her; she's the perfect balance between irreverent and that friend you can always count on. She's relatable and honest and down to earth in the best way. 

I'm sure it'd be just as enjoyable to read, but I'm listening to the audiobook, which Sloane herself narrates. This is the first short story collection I've listened to in the car, but this is the perfect thing to listen to between destinations. 

Audiobook

People have been telling me to read This Side of Paradise for years, but I just haven't gotten around to it until now. I read The Great Gatsby and The Beautiful and Damned, both of which I loved, but I have to admit that I'm just not really into this book... 

Maybe it's because I haven't read a classic author in awhile or because I find the protagonist, Amory, to be an insufferable prick like The Beautiful and Damned's Anthony Patch, but not nearly as interesting. Maybe it's because I haven't quite figured out his motives or where the story is going yet. I did just get to a highly dramatic scene (no spoilers, but if you've read it you know what I'm talking about), so perhaps it'll pick up from here. 

I'm not quite ready to give up yet, so more thoughts on that later...
