I Got Honorable Mention In a Writing Contest! Here's the Piece that Won.
I have some good news! A few months ago I wrote an essay about my great-grandmother and her tall tales and submitted it to New Southerner magazine's annual contest. I recently found out that my essay got Honorable Mention in the nonfiction category!
Because they only choose one winner in each category, getting Honorable Mention is akin to second place. Considering that I've only been submitting my creative writing seriously since April of this year, I'm having a pretty good year. I'm just happy I placed at all!
The essay is called "Plucking Chin Hairs" and you can read it online now, and it'll be out in New Southerner's next print issue in January.
Thank you so much for supporting my work over the past year. Please read, share, and comment on this piece because that let's New Southerner know you like my work.
I've been hustling hard, so I can't wait to share more with you in the new year! I'll have one more post for you this year (next Monday), then the next you'll hear from me is in 2017. Stay tuned, and thanks for sticking with me this year!
