The Broke Book Girl Wish List is a list of books I can't wait to read. These are the books I cross my fingers hoping to find at the thrift store, or, at the very least, pester booksellers by trying to find out when they'll be issued in paperback.
Being a broke book girl means I've got some made bargain-hunting skills. I know the best places to stalk my bookish prey and I know the couponing and sale-tracking techniques to go in for the bargain kill. I'd wear a coon hat made out of book pages, but--pardon the pun--that'd cut into my reading.
But there's one type of book that always seems to evade me. Comic books. They're extinct in thrift stores and library book sales, and they're elusive at used bookstores. Traditional bookstores always refer me to the comic book's natural habitat--the comic book store. But I find my bargain-hunting powers have little to no effect there.
So, for now, these comics will just have to wait on my wish list.
Ms. Marvel:

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen:
You had me at "literary figures from throughout time." And in the question of chicken and egg, the comic came before the movie.
Description from Goodreads: London, 1898. The Victorian Era draws to a close and the twentieth century approaches. It is a time of great change and an age of stagnation, a period of chaste order and ignoble chaos. It is an era in need of champions.
In this amazingly imaginative tale, literary figures from throughout time and various bodies of work are brought together to face any and all threats to Britain. Allan Quatermain, Mina Murray, Captain Nemo, Dr. Henry Jekyll and Edward Hyde and Hawley Griffin ( the Invisible Man) form a remarkable legion of intellectual aptitude and physical prowess:The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
Sex Criminals:
If you don't like a good story about a librarian and her boyfriend who can stop time when they orgasm and thus proceed to rob banks, I can't help you.
Description from Goodreads: Suzie’s just a regular gal with an irregular gift: when she has sex, she stops time. One day she meets Jon and it turns out he has the same ability. And sooner or later they get around to using their gifts to do what we’d ALL do: rob a couple banks. A bawdy and brazen sex comedy for comics begins here!
There you have it! Those are my comic book crushes. Level up in nerdom and read with me! What are your favorite comics? Or are you a comic newbie like me?
