3 Things I Learned from Blogging Every Day for 30 Days

What a month it’s been!
For all of November, I did the #BlogLikeCrazy challenge, where I posted a blog post a day, every day for 30 days. This is actually the last post of the challenge, so I thought it’d be appropriate to wrap up the month with what I’ve learned from doing this challenge.
And don’t worry, while the challenge has concluded, this blog isn’t going anywhere. I’ll resume posting every Monday like normal.
1) You will never run out of ideas.
Seriously! The more you write, the more ideas you get for things to write. Writing is a self-perpetuating act. For a few days, I wondered if I’d run out of things to blog about, but I can say now at the end of the month that I came up with way more ideas than I actually used. Which just means I’ve got more things to share with you later!
2) Writing is all about commitment and discipline.
Normally, when I hear people express fears about writing every day, they’re worried that they won’t have anything to say every day. Here’s the thing, though: You don’t have to write a magnum opus every day, you just have to write something every day. That doesn’t necessarily mean publishing any word vomit if you don’t want to. It just means that the more you write, the more you train yourself to write. If you get your mind and body in the habit of sitting down every day to crank out X number of words, those words will come easier to you with time. Writing will feel more familiar and less like a challenge.
3) Writing challenges can be motivating!
Especially if there are others doing the challenge with you. One thing I love about Blog Like Crazy is that it’s during November, so it’s like the blogging version of NaNoWriMo. And everyone who’s doing the challenge cheers on everyone else who’s participating. So there’s subtle but kind peer pressure.
Although I won’t continue the challenge to blog every day until the next Blog Like Crazy November because I’ll be focusing on other writing challenges (like writing my books!) I’m so glad I did it and I can’t wait to do it again.
I was inspired to do Blog Like Crazy by Javacia Harris Bowser, who’s the founder of the women’s writing group See Jane Write.
