Readers can be picky people.

Some readers love the tumultuous back and forth of politicians fighting their way to the presidential ballot, and some of us, including myself, just don't.

Some readers get curmudgeonly about football, while others, including myself, just see it as a time to get some reading in because my significant other is sufficiently occupied.

But hey--I can understand how readers might get curmudgeonly during this time of year and need to placate with fireplaces, hot tea, fluffy cats, and lots of books.

Unless you're a reader who hates the cold in addition to politics and football. In which case, today's Thursday Word Day is for you.

Merriam-Webster says, "misanthrope: noun. 1) a person who does not like other people. 2) a person who hates or distrusts humankind."

And if you're feeling misanthropic, it's totally okay. The books understand.
